Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 3 - Crafting a Location

In the previous article of this series we played out our first scene of our solo ODnD campaign using the rules provided by the Mythic GM Emulator. In this article we are going to incorporate something new into the mix to handle the business of crafting an adventure location from scratch so that we might add a little substance to the campaign. To achieve this goal we are going to look at a book called 'The Location Crafter'. This is a supplement for use in conjunction with the Mythic GM Emulator and I'm very excited to try it out and see what results we can get. Let's have a go! Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 3 - Crafting a Location The Location Crafter utilises something called a 'Region', which is essentially a defined space within the adventure that is going to be explored. In this campaign our character Mona the first level Magic-User is about to explore a cave she discovered behind a waterfall hidden within the forest. This cave

Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 2 - Running the First Scene

Welcome back to my Play by Blog Campaign. In the previous session I setup the first scene of the game using the mighty Mythic GM Emulator. In this session I am going to play out the scene. This will entail asking various questions using the Mythic GM Emulator oracle system as well as how to end a scene once it reaches a natural breaking off point. Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 2 - Running the First Scene The first thing I need to do is set the scene, so here goes... My character Mona is out in the forest checking her hunting traps, when suddenly she discovers the mutilated carcass of a deer caught in one of the traps. She inspects the remains closely noticing immediately that something has brutally torn the animal apart, stripping it of huge chunks of flesh, and breaking the bones. Whatever did this clearly has a great deal of strength and sharp monsterous claws and teeth. Mona is going to attempt to track this unknown creature and see if she c

Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 1 - Setting the Scene

I have several solo campaigns on my YouTube channel. However, I thought it might be fun to try my hand at blogging one. This will also give me a chance to play around with some of the solo RPG rules out there. I think this might help me make my own solo rule set more robust. I've been working hard developing this as it's the solo rules I apply to the campaigns I use in my YouTube videos. I also figure this is a great way to get some solo TTRPG content out there quicker so that anybody who enjoys following my solo D&D campaigns can have more regular content and some additional food for thought while waiting for new videos (which take me a while to produce sometimes). Solo RPG Using Mythic GM Emulator and OD&D - Part 1 - Setting the Scene This campaign is going to be a bit of a canvas of experimentation and therefore it might go in any direction. I will attempt to discuss my thought process and approach in as much detail as seems natural to me, so you can gain

Getting your Angles Right! - Gary Gygax's Random Dungeon Generator - An Old School D&D Tutorial

Many of us old school D&D enthusiasts are likely to have come across the Random Dungeon Generator in the back of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide. I imagine slightly less will recall the Solo Dungeon Adventures article in The Strategic Review. If you've read my Solo D&D articles on this very blog then you might be familar with it. Might even have tried out the Random Dungeon Generator in your own Solo D&D games. It's a great system for both designing dungeons before hand for a group campaign or dungeon delving by yourself with pencil and graph paper. However, it can be a little confusing. Especially when rolling on Table II to determine the space beyond a door or Table III for determining side passages. One of my readers (Odin) was wanting some help with this. So in this article I will attempt to clear up any confusion. Getting your Angles Right! - Gary Gygax's Random Dungeon Generator - An Old School D&D Tutorial The
